Voice phishing happened even though did not supply anything

A businessman called Lee received a phishing call from a bogus international delivery company requesting a one-time bank password in order to acquire a package. Mr. Lee was suspicious and did not supply the one-time password, resulting in an unauthorized withdrawal of RM1 million from his Maybank account.

Scam involving insurance over the phone

A 70-year-old retiree fell prey to a telephone phishing scam in which the scammers impersonated police and insurance officers, stating she had submitted an insurance claim and was being investigated for money laundering. The crooks were successful in robbing the victim of RM3.9 million by telephone intimidation and orders to open a new account and transfer the funds.

A sophisticated AI has deeply faked Malaysian singer Siti Nurhaliza's appearance and voice in order to trick followers into believing she was on a video conversation with a celebrity and luring them into spending money on phony prizes. Singer Siti rushed to Instagram to warn her fans not to fall for the ruse, claiming that she was not arranging any contests or cash rewards.

Deepfake video call phishing scam

34 cases of police e-scams with losses of nearly RM1 million. A colleague of Ms. Farah Zubir, a banker, told her that her likeness had been heavily manipulated for use as an adult pornographic film heroine. In addition, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Malaysia's former Director General of Health, said that fraudsters utilized his attractive looks and voice to promote the sale of diabetic medication.
